The following books provided me with some of the most vital information I used in overcoming my IC.

1. To Wake in Tears,Understanding Interstitial Cystitis by Catherine M. Simone  (1998)

This book is the empowering story of a woman’s struggle with IC and how she battled all of the odds and finally took control of her health and symptoms. This book was a salvation for me during my own worst symptoms. I cried when I read it and it really helped me to feel that I was not alone in my suffering.

2. Solving the Interstitial Cystitis Puzzle, A guide to Natural Healing by Amrit K. Willis et al. (2003)

A phenomenal analysis of all factors that can contribute to IC and how to take a step-by-step approach to cleaning up your lifestyle, body and health. It was extremely informative and helpful to me when I was desperately seeking guidance.

3. The Hundred Year Lie, How to protect yourself from the chemicals that are destroying your health by Randall      Fitzgerald (2006)

My favorite. A shocking exposé about the toxicity of the modern man and the thousands of synthetic chemicals we consume unknowingly through our food, water and the environment. This book will be a huge wake-up call to anyone wanting to minimize their toxic load, something that is vital in healing the body from IC.

4. Seeds of Deception, Exposing Industry and Government lies about the safety of Genetically Modified foods you’re eating, Jeffrey M. Smith (2003)

There is a lot of controversy surrounding both the safety and environmental impact  of GMO’s. The Hundred year lie addresses the political conspiracy and food industry manipulation behind the approval of the foods we consume. This book refers to certain causes of food allergies or intolerance’s that can be contributing to inflammation in the body and can be useful for those with IC.

5. The China Study, Startling implications for diet, weight loss and long-term health, T. Colin Campbell et al. (2006)

An in-depth foray into the importance of the food choices we make in determining our health. This book supplies life-saving nutritional information and addresses many of the reasons behind why disease is at an all-time high.

6. Gut and Psychology Syndrome, Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride(2004)

In-depth insight into the physiology of the human digestive tract and its role in the formation of disease and mental disorders. This book is one of the greatest books to read when trying to understand how to heal the digestive system, as IC sufferers often have digestive abnormalities. All health or disease  starts in the gut.

7. Sugar Blues,William Dufty (1976)

An awakening look into the poisonous effects of an all-too-common substance we consume at an alarming rate: Sugar. This crystalline powder causes many debilitating diseases, is hidden in many foods and is as addictive as nicotine or heroin.
